100m simulation

Velocity model

The velocity model here was generated using V2.06 of the NZVM, which includes more basins in the Tasman district

As the region of interest is the Wellington basin, a shallow region, topologies of both BULLDOZED and SQUASHED_TAPERED were use to generate the 100m velocity model

Core hour requirements

Each topography type is estimated to take 122000 core hours to run.

Each job on Maui is limited to 96000 core hours, meaning each topography type will have to be submitted at least twice with checkpointing.

The below image shows the bounds of Maui jobs.

The orange and green circles represent initial job submissions that resulted in out of memory errors.

The currently submitted jobs are in green and red, with 225 nodes, 5.25hrs, and 240 nodes, 5hrs, respectively.

If these jobs fail due to memory issues, then we will not be able to run them on Maui.

For reference the limits on a job are:

  • No more than 24 hours wall clock time
  • No more than 240 nodes (across the entire account)
  • No more than 1200 node-hours (96000 core hours) running (across the entire account)

200m simulation

These plots were generated from a run of HikWgtnmax.

The velocity model was generated from V2.03 of the NZVM using a 200m grid.

This does not include the basins at the top of the South Island
