QuakeCoRE OpenSees Training Workshops

The 2016 OpenSees training workshops are to be held on 10 & 13 June at the University of Canterbury, and on 14 June (and another date to be confirmed) at the University of Auckland. These workshops are intended to provide a general introduction to working with the OpenSees finite element analysis platform for both structural and geotechnical applications. The content of these workshops will range from introductory topics such as downloading and running the program for simple models, to more advanced topics such as pre- and post-processing tools, or running OpenSees in parallel. These workshops will also provide guidance in running OpenSees on NeSI computational resources. It is recommended that attendees bring a laptop to get the most out of the workshop, but it is not required.

A pre-workshop survey has been established to help the organisers to direct the content of the workshops and to gain insights into future directions for OpenSees in New Zealand. Please take some time to complete this survey if you are interested in attending and/or using OpenSees for research purposes. The survey can be accessed at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/X3S2S7G.

Please register your interest via email to christopher.mcgann@canterbury.ac.nz by Noon 7June. Note which workshop you would like to attend and complete the pre-workshop survey (if not already completed). Details on locations, times, and agendas will be sent around to registered participants soon.

QuakeCoRE OpenSees Student Innovation Prizes

We would also like to remind everyone of the call for submissions to the first annual QuakeCoRE OpenSees Student Innovation Prize Competition. Two $500 prizes will be awarded at the 2016 QuakeCoRE Annual Meeting recognising significant earthquake engineering research that has been undertaken using the OpenSees finite element analysis platform. Submissions will be accepted at the same time as abstracts for the QuakeCoRE Annual Meeting. Enquiries can be directed to the email noted above.
