Model is currently implemented, but we need to update Port Chalmers. "Offshore" Inlets need to be modeled as a part of the basin going forward.

Northern Hawkes Bay — Heretaunga Plains to Mahia

USER2021 - integrated

The areas marked with black X's were either considered too shallow or sedimentary rock so weren't modelled as a basin.

Southern Hawkes Bay — Central Hawkes Bay and Tararua Districts

USER2021 - outline was made

  • Long Valley running from the Ngaruroro River to Eketahuna.
  • Include any small basins south of Hastings and along the coast.
  • Note: Will be near the Wairarapa and Manawatu-Whanganui / Taranaki basins, but does not physically touch due to rock.
  • Physically connects to Northern Hawkes Bay in the Ngaruroro River valley
    • Need to check consistency in the bedrock surfaces at the intersection.

Rotorua and neighboring lakes

  • Sedimentary basins surrounding the lakes, could be complex with interaction from extrusive volcanic rocks (basalt, tuff, pumice).
  • Exclude Whakatane, Tauranga, and Hauraki Plains

Manawatu-Whanganui / Taranaki

  • Large basin, including: Paraparaumu, Kapiti Coast, Palmerston North, Whanganui, New Plymouth
  • Sediments and shallow volcanic lahars near Taranaki
  • Start with outlining the basin and any outcrops
