Project Title

Direction Dependent Dissipation (D3) Devices: Semi-Active Behaviour with the robustness of a passive device

Research Team

Project Description

This project will design, develop and experimentally validate a low-cost, robust viscous damper that offers custom, design-specified viscous damping in any one (or more) quadrants of the force-displacement response plot (customised hysteretic response). It will also use computational modeling and methods to provide easy device design tools and relate these devices to standard design codes. A particular focus of this proposal will be the proof-of-concept verification of the damping device in a large-scale shake table structure test at the University of Auckland, through a joint effort between UC and UA.
