Context:

2017 represents the 300th anniversary of the last major earthquake rupture of the Alpine Fault in 1717.

Research and outreach activities in 2017

So far we are aware of the current activities happening in 2017 associated with the Alpine Fault.  If you would like an activity you are involved in to be posted here please contact Danica Nel (danical.nel@canterbury.ac.nz) or Brendon Bradley (brendon.bradley@canterbury.ac.nz)

1. Jan-Dec: QuakeCoRE Alpine fault case study project: link
   • During the 2017 calendar year, QuakeCoRE, will run a cross-flagship Alpine Fault case study in which leading research happening within the six flagship areas of QuakeCoRE will be synthesised to advance the understanding of Alpine fault impacts. 
2. ~April(?): Paleoseismic / source characterisation of the Alpine Fault (contact: Rob Langridge, GNS Science)
3. Month(?): Project AF8 - CDEM emergency management exercise (contact: Caroline Orchiston, University of Otago)
