Using FileZilla to transfer files

Filezilla is a fast and reliable cross-platform FTP, FTPS and SFTP client with lots of useful features and an intuitive graphical user interface. Filezilla is available for most platforms from http://filezilla-project.org/ The best thing about Filezilla is that is does SCP (secure file copy) transfers really well and quickly - much better than winscp, in particular.

When you start Filezilla, you'll see your local files on the Local site (left) side of the screen. Then (for example) usercode abc123 with password secret would enter the following information into the Quickconnect bar at the top to start an SCP session:

Host: p2n14.canterbury.ac.nz
Username: abc123
Password: secret
Port: 22

The click the "Quickconnect" button and you should be away. You can drag-and-drop files and folders from the left (local) to the right (remote), and vice-versa. More help is available on the Filezilla web site
