Welcome to the UC Library's EndNote Wiki. UC staff and students can log in to edit pages and add comments. Use Your Account menu at the bottom of the page.

EndNote is software that enables you to store and manage references, and use these to format citations and bibliographies in documents, in many different styles.

The library recommends and supports EndNote X6 and X7. Endnote is available for installing on campus (see next section) or the files are available to be downloaded to install on your own computer here - you will need your login, and they are large files. Read more here .

Once installed check for updates by opening EndNote and going to the Help menu. Choose EndNote Program Updates and use the Wizard to check for updates. On Campus you may need IT or Departmental IT support as this will require administrators rights.

      Endnote is available at no cost for Staff and Students using it for their UC work.

    I have installed Endnote on my mac but when I try to import a reference from Safari it saves to the downloads folder instead of going to the endnote library. I then have to import the the reference. Is there a fix for this?

      There are regular sessions throughout the year. This varies from branch to branch so it is worth asking the Liaison Librarians in the subject area of interest to you. Their contacts are available here.

    Are there any tutorial video's available on how to use end note as I am a distance student in Tauranga?

    When typing in references into End note what format do we need to use?  For example the Authors- Do we use their full names or do we use their surname and initals?

      If you click the link under EndNote Extras (at bottom right above) “Training videos,” you will see that the vendor has created quite a few on various aspects of EndNote. If you are just getting started, try selecting “Playlists” and then the “Starting or Upgrading” group of videos.

      Regarding authors: I would recommend putting in as much detail as you have for each author, and always invert the name (Surname, Forenames/Initials). If there are several names, put each name on a separate line, e.g.

      Read, Sheryl
      Arnold, John

      If an author appears in more than one reference, keep the format exactly the same. Some styles (such as APA) require the use of initials in in-text citations if there is more than one author with the same surname. EndNote implements this requirement, but interprets any variation as a different author – including if one entry has full stops and one doesn't or even if one has a stray space after it!
